Decorating the Pueblo County Courthouse for Christmas is no easy task. Decorator Karen Farbo and her husband Brad take on the challenge every year. Karen comes up with a theme and then works to make her vision come to life by adding unique decorations to the Courthouse. In 2019 Karen came up with the theme "Colorado Christmas" In 2018, which was her first year decorating the Courthouse she came up with the theme "Rocky Mountain Christmas." Although the theme for 2020 has been selected it remains a secret until we get closer to the event. Karen promises a more whimsical theme for 2020. It takes a team of about 10 volunteers and several days to complete the task of decorating the Pueblo County Courthouse for Christmas.
In 2019 Karen had the task of decorating a 33-foot Christmas tree which was donated by Dr. Robert Hamilton. On the second floor she had another big task of decorating a 17-foot Christmas tree where kids took photos with Santa. A 4-foot cabin surrounded by log reindeer is one of the biggest decorations that made Karen's design and ideas come together for 2019.
"We wanted it to feel like Christmas in the mountains," said Farbo. "I think we accomplished that."
It takes a village of people to setup all of the Christmas decorations at the Courthouse and it takes several days to make sure everything is put together properly.
